The Dawei prism can be considered as a right angled prism with the top cut, which reduces the weight and stray light of the prism. After passing through this prism, due to only one total reflection, the rotation of the image will be changed, and the image will be reversed by 180 degrees. The Dawei prism can rotate, invert, or reflect images backwards. After entering from one of the inclined surfaces, the light will undergo total reflection at the longest bottom surface and then exit from the opposite inclined surface. When the Dawei prism is rotated around its optical axis, the imaging rotation angle is twice the prism rotation angle. Metal coated Dawei prisms can replace retroreflectors. The Dawei prism introduces astigmatism when used for converging light beams, and it is recommended to use it for collimated light beams. In addition, the Dawei prism can also affect the polarization state of the transmitted light beam.
